PDP Chief Attacked in Gombe
From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe
Mayhem was let loose in Gombe, when a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, Alhaji Abubakar Damausan was allegedly attacked by suspected thugs said to be loyal to the party.
The attack, THISDAY gathered, was as result of the pasting of former President Ibrahim Babngida's posters in his house.
But the party's youth leader, Alhaji Abubakar Mu'azu denied such act saying the attack was not perpetrated by supporters of the party as alleged by Damausan.
Mu'azu in an interview with newsmen said that no thug from the party attacked Damausan despite being perceived to be Babangida's loyalist.
He said the party did not give any directive to his supporters to harass anybody or group of persons.
"We did not give any directive to our supporters to deal with people with Babangida's posters.
People are free to associate with Atiku or Babangida," he added.
He said the Goje administration had surpassed the record of his predecessors which was why it was important that they support the government giant stride in the State.
THISDAY gathered that the thugs matcheted about ten supporters of Damausan during the sudden attack.
However, Damausan told journalists that among those seriously wounded by the thugs included Balaraba Shugaba Bala Idimatauchi and Haruna Ibrahim.
According to him, the thugs, who invaded him, carted away N40,000 from one of his aides and vandalised three vehicles in his compound.
"I supported Danjuma Goje to win the governorship but so far he has refused to include my people in his government. Even the governor did not allocate feterlizer to me to distribute to my people," Damausan said.
The politician said he has reported the attack to the state police command for necessary action.
The State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ambrose Aisabor confirmed the attack to newsmen yesterday and stated that the police have been looking for the thugs.
Said Aisabor "we have declared war on them and very soon we are going to arrest them".
