'We Don't Need A Foreign Coach' By Ayodeji Fashikun Joseph Erico, long standing goalkeeper of the Green Eagles, as the national team was then known, has restated the fact that with appropriate respect paid to indigenous coaches, the nation does not need a foreign coach. Speaking on Lagos-based Channels Television, recently the tall dark complexioned former assistant coach of the Super Eagles, said: "if we pay foreign coaches, who incidentally are not as good as their Nigerian assistants, as much as $30,000 per month, why can't we pay Nigerian coaches half and see them succeed on the job." According to him, his former captain in the national team, Christian Chukwu, the present Chief Coach of the Super Eagles "needs all the support to succeed on the job now. The clamour for a foreign coach was enough to have distracted him. I am not surprised at the result we got in Zimbabwe. I saw it coming. Only those who can't read the handwriting on the wall will be surprised at the result. I foresee our going to Gabon to also win." The coach who has been recalled to tinker his former clubside, NEPA FC said, "I know we can beat the panthers of Gabon in Libreville. We do not seem to appreciate the fact that we have a very good team. We can raise a team to do us proud without any stress.'
