Season of Sanctions at Kwara United
From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin
GLOBACOM Premier League side, Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin may have missed the continental ticket at the end of the season but may end up as the team with the highest turn over of coaches.
At the start of the season, state government officials hiding under management umbrella had forced a Serb, Papic Kostadinov as the Technical Adviser of the club, even against an overwhelming call for an indigenous soccer tactician.
The season was barely mid-way when the Serb quit the club unceremoniously, leaving the club in the relegation zone.
Official sources later said that Kostadinov was given the boot due to his lack luster handling of the club.
The management later named Liberian-born, Jochar Wreacher as the new tactician to tinker the club out of its precarious position.
But with less than five matches to end the season, Wreacher, owing to the team's apparent wrecking fortunes, has been booted out along with his assistant, Issa Salman.
Unofficial sources claimed that the coaches were relieved of their jobs following players' revolt.
Some players of the club were reported to have ganged up against the coaches leading to their "deportation" from Kaduna.
Coach Ganiyu Mustapha popularly called 'Brimo' from the club's feeder team and who was a part of the duo that brought the team from the lower division the last time out, was dispatched to the senior team on a rescue mission.
THISDAYSport checks found out over the weekend that two players, Daniel "Peugeot" Njoku and left winger, Kazeem Ahmed have been suspended indefinitely by the management for going AWOL (away without official leave).
Njoku, one of the leading scorers in the domestic scene was reported to have gone on trials in Holland while Kazeem who just returned from Sunshine Stars, is said to have headed to Poland for the same reason.
Njoku was sighted on Sunday while Kazeem is still being awaited in the state. Efforts to get Njoku comment on the success of his trials failed. Sources told THISDAYSports that the duo might be on their way out of the club as they have reportedly been signed on by their new clubs.
