Yobo Dedicates Trophy to Chukwu "I am happy we got the valuable three points from the match. I also feel delighted scoring the goal. It is a victory for Nigeria and the entire team, I give glory to God and I dedicate the MVP Award to our coach Christian Chukwu." These were the words of Super Eagles defender, Joseph Yobo who was voted Globacom Man of the Match in last Saturday's World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Algeria. Yobo nodded in the lone goal that secured victory for the Eagles on 85th minute and was selected by sports journalists who covered the match as the man of the match to win the glittering trophy presented by Globacom Limited. "It was a difficult match. The coach has put in a lot of effort for the team but we were not at our best because we have been on holiday for sometime now. But it would have been a disaster if we did not win... so I thank God for the victory," said Yobo shortly after receiving the award, adding that the players would improve their match fitness when they return to their clubs in Europe for the 2004-2005 season. Defending Coach Christian Chukwu, the Eagles vice-captain said it was the failure of the players to lift their game that made victory difficult. "We have been on holiday and so not very match fit. The coach did his best and there was nothing he could have done when players turned up late to camp. We hope that when we return to our clubs, fitness will improve and even when we report late to camp, our game will be better," Yobo submitted. Inter Milan striker, Obafemi Martins won the first Globacom Man of the Match award. His two goals in the match against Rwanda earned him the majority votes of sports journalists, who covered that match. Globacom is sponsoring the awards to motivate the players to outstanding performance during the 2006 World Cup qualifying matches.
