'Insurance Brokers Best Pension Advisers '
In anticipation of the kick-off of a new pension system in the country, Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), the umbrella body of insurance brokerage firms has stated that its members should be accorded a pride of place if Nigerians were to derive maximum satisfaction in the dispensation being awaited.
This assertion was made by the President of the council, Prince Feyisayo Soyewo at the Brokers' Forum hosted by the Ibadan, Oyo State Capital based Trans Nigeria Assurance Company Limited in Lagos recently.
Relating the purpose of the recent visit of the leadership of the brokers' body to the Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, Soyewo said it was to ensure that insurance brokers play active role in the new pension dispensation.
He said Ahmed was intimated of the role of insurance brokers in the new dispensation, insisting that they were in the best position to offer advisory services to ensure that Nigerians from all walks of life reap bountifully from the new system.
"I informed the Head of Service about the cardinal roles which brokers ought to play in the new pension administration, noting that as professionals, brokers were in a better position to give advice on the scheme and also assist in educating our teeming clients on its benefits.
"I made the government realise that considering the technical nature of insurance and moreso pension business, brokers are needed if policyholders were to enjoy maximally under the insurance policies", the council President disclosed.
Soyewo also pleaded with members to support the council's leadership in its resolve to surmount the enormous challenges before it.
Meanwhile, the management of the host company, a general business underwriter with a capital base of N200 million has disclosed its intention to go composite.
Making this disclosure in his address at the forum, the Managing Director of the company, Mr. E. O. Ogunniran said that his organisation has embarked on "re-positioning, re-structuring and re-engineering" with a view to capturing a greater share of the Nigerian insurance market.
He disclosed that Trans National Assurance Company Limited has invested a substantial sum of money on recruiting seasoned and professionally qualified staffers in various fields of human endeavours to man its various sections. It has also invested in training and retraining of its personnel with a view to effective, prompt and quality service delivery to its clientele, he added.
Ogunniran as well sought for the patronage of insurance brokers in the course of its service delivery.
"We therefore call on you to please cap our efforts as enumerated above to gain wider acceptability and patronage by making your support and backing for us total", he prayed.
