Market Value Declines by N4bn

The market capitalisation of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday declined by N4 billion to N1,695 trillion from N1.699 trillion recorded the previous transactions.
Also, the all-share index dropped from 23,093.51 to 23,030,23 .
Analysis of the subsectors revealed that the banking subsector was the most active with a turnover of 19. 8 million ordinary shares worth N157.4 million exchanged in 1,067.
Access Bank Plc recorded the highest turnover of 5.3 million ordinary shares worth N18.2 million in 41 deals.
It was followed by Union Bank Nigeria Plc with a turnover of 2.7 million ordinary shares valued at N62. 3 million in 291 deals; while United Bank for Africa Plc recorded a turnover of 2.3 million ordinary shares worth N20.3 million in 97 deals.
The breweries subsector also recorded a turnover of 2 million shares valued at N108.8 million in 538 deals to the subsector chart.
It led with a turnover of 1.8 million ordinary shares worth N72.9 million in 440 deals.
It was followed by Guinness Nigeria Plc which recorded a turnover of 253,956 ordinary shares valued at N35.8 million in 93 deals, while Champion Breweries Plc garnered a turnover of 1,960 ordinary shares worth N7,448.00 in 4 deals.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) recorded a total of 28.9 million ordinary shares valued at N574.3 million exchanged in 2,584 deals, in contrast to 58.2 million ordinary shares worth N648.1 million exchanged in 3,587 the previous day.
Texaco Nigeria Plc led the price gainers' chart with a gain of N2.00 to close at N161.00 per share. Nestle followed with a gain of N1.65 to close at 160.95 kobo per share, while First Bank of Nigeria Plc gained N1.12 kobo to close at N23.67 kobo per share.
Other price gainers in the top ten chart included Union Bank Nigeria Plc (32 kobo), May and Baker Nigeria Plc (25 kobo), Intercontinental Bank Plc (21 kobo), GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Plc (20 kobo), Wema Bank Plc (14 kobo), B.O.C. Gases Plc (14 kobo) and WAPIC Insurance Plc (11 kobo).
However, Total Nigeria Plc led the price losers, dropping by N9.04 kobo to close at N181.01 kobo per share.
Cadbury Nigeria Plc recorded a loss of N3.00 to close at N59.50 kobo per share, while Nigerian Bottling Company Plc lost N1.95 kobo to close at N62.05 kobo per share.
Other price losers included Seven-Up Bottling Company Plc (100 kobo), Conoil Plc (95 kobo), Ashakacem Plc (84 kobo), Okomu Oil Palm Plc (63 kobo), Unilever Nigeria Plc (29 kobo) and CFAO Nigeria Plc (23 kobo).
