FIFA and CAF instructor Adegboye Onigbinde has faulted the Sports Ministry's direct control of Nigerian football, saying, "with what is on ground in Nigerian football administration and the frequent intervention of the Sports Ministry in the game, there is no way the country can escape FIFA's sanction."

World soccer governing body FIFA are expected to, on September 22, look at Decree 101, which governs the running of football in Nigeria with a view of ascertaining the level of government’s involvement in how the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) operate.

"We just need to pray that we escape FIFA's hammer.
"The only thing I know is that Nigeria knows how to play their politics. And if the administrators can play the game well this time around, then there will be no problem", Onigbinde told www.kickoffnigeria.com in Ibadan yesterday.
Onigbinde explained that "FIFA detest a situation where a senior officer of a football association is also the personal assistant of the minister.

"Likewise, choosing high ranking officers of the football association, courtesy of the Sports Ministry, are not in line with FIFA's statutes," he told www.kickoffnigeria.com.
"FIFA has the last say on the matter and unless the world football body change their statute and rule that the minister can appoint football association's executive officers, then Nigeria has a good case but if not, I don't see us escaping sanctions from FIFA.

"I don't know the defence we can put up here", Onigbinde told www.kickoffnigeria.com.
The 3SC GM is expected to travel to FIFA's headquarters in Zurich to attend FIFA's committee meetings beginning from Monday. He is expected to present a paper on the last African Nations Cup held in Tunisia to the Technical Committee of FIFA on September 23 .
