Lagos State government yesterday refuted media reports that the former Corps Marshal of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), Brigade, Assistant Commi-ssioner of Police, Kehinde Oyenuga (rtd.) resigned from office.
A statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Dele Alake, said Oyenuga, who reportedly resigned during the week was indeed suspended on Tuesday September 14.
"ACP Kehinde Oyenuga was suspended vide a letter dated Tuesday September 14. His suspension was necessitated by the need to carry out investigations of widespread allegations against him by rank and file of KAI," the statement said.
"It is a case of a man who has refused to bow to constituted authority and who wants to mislead the public by misrepresenting facts and conjuring fiction," Alake said.
The state government also said Oyenuga's claims of not being paid 10 months salaries were false, adding that following the creation of KAI, a comprehensive assessment was carried out so that the emoluments of KAI personnel could be placed within existing salary structure of the civil service
"In view of the fact that the state had just computerised its staff system on the Oracle software, harmonising the new entrants and the new unit took some time to achieve. This certainly affected payment of salary of the leadership of KAI, including ACP Oyenuga (rtd). To ameliorate the situation, the commissioner obtained the approval of His Excellency to work out a system of paying salary advances to the leadership. The advances would then be deducted when the harmonisation was completed.
"As a matter of record, ACP Oyenuga has benefitted from the ad-hoc arrangement of salary advances. Similarly, he has been receiving N60,000 as his running cost every month including the month of September", the statement said.
