Revisit Ban on Textile Materials, Obasanjo Urged By 'Lola Adewoyin A call has gone to Pre-sident Olusegun Obasanjo to reconsider the ban on importation of textile materials. Speaking with reporters in Lagos, National President of the Embroidery Lace Dealers Association of Nigeria (ELDAN), Mrs Bewaji Kuku, said if government can allow importation of raw materials, all the textile factories in Nigeria would be working with full capacity. She cited Korea as an example of a country where governments allow raw materials to be imported, thereby keeping their nationals working and factories running, adding because Korea kept their nationals working, that is why they have more than 300 factories. Kuku said the association was not asking government to lend it money "we only want government to allow us import raw materials so that manufacturing firms can be working." According to her,"if you go to Supreme Lace Factory, only a fraction of the factory is working, even at Shokas factory in Ijebu-Igbo with over 32 machines, only two are working. She said the Association had taken its case to the Senate but without positive response, because there was no one to plead our case, adding " we are now appealing to Obasanjo to grant us audience, so that we can explain our plight.
