Call Fayose to Order, Says Afenifere
By Abimbola Akosile

Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, has called on governors in the South-west to urgently speak to Governor Ayo Fayose, to curb his alleged excessive behaviour, and resultant embarrassment in the region.

Also an appeal was made to all Yoruba people of good conscience, who are in a position to act one way or the other, not to hesitate in calling Fayose to order over his perceived gangsterism.

In a statement issued and signed by Mr. Yinka Odumakin, National Administrative Secre-tary of the organisation, Fayose was accused of embracing crude means to bring Ekiti people down to his own level.

"Afenifere has watched with keen interest the gale of spiral violence, 'Al-Qaeda' tactics and 'Nazi' methods that the educated and refined people of Ekiti State have been subjected to since the emergence of Fayose as governor during the '419' elections of 2003. The manifestation of this gangster rule have been widespread", Odumakin stated.

He recalled, "When the Ekiti House of Assembly was considering an impeachment motion against the governor last year, armed men stormed the Assembly and in the process killed a man. Also when students of Ekiti State College of Education went on a peaceful protest on Fayose's choice of a Provost for the institution, Fayose deployed armed policemen to the scene and about eight students were murdered in cold blood".

Odumakin also decried the manner in which Governor Fayose had allegedly harassed and intimidated Governor Bola Tinubu (Lagos), and former governors Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Aremo Olusegun Osoba (Ekiti and Ogun states respectively) when the trio visited Ekiti to observe funeral rites for the mother of Lagos State Sports Commissioner, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele.

On a recent alleged political attack on Mr. Taye Fasubaa, Chairman, Ado Ekiti Local Government Council, which was condemned by Ekiti Elders, Odumakin said, "Afenifere is worried about the perpetual bellicose utterances of the state governor on issues which clearly require patience and mature leadership, thereby attracting to himself a lot of opposition.
