NAFDAC Destroys N60m Food, Drugs By Yemi Akinsuyi National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed spurious drugs and unwholesome food worth N60,216,450. The products include fake, substandard, adulterated and expired pharmaceuticals and unwholesome food products confiscated from manufacturers, importers and distributors of these products. They also include expired and defective products handed over by manufacturing companies for destruction in line with the agency's regulatory guidelines. Speaking at the Ojota, Lagos site of the destruction, Deputy Director, Enforcement, Garba MacDonald, said Ranbaxy Nig. Ltd, OK Foods, Artee Industries Ltd, Ice Investment Ltd, and Promasidor Nig. Ltd. were the companies that voluntarily submitted their expired and damaged products at the seaport products for destruction. He added that other products were either seized at the ports or confiscated from the warehouse. MacDonald, therefore, called on the general public to watch out for manufacturing and expiring dates of products before purchase and also called on other companies to emulate those who voluntarily submitted their unwholesome products to the agency for destruction. "The agency once more reiterated that the general public should always look out for the manufacturing and expiry dates, manufacturers' name and full location address and NAFDAC registration number when procuring drugs and other regulated products. The Deputy Director also reassured the public on the Director-General's commitment to safeguarding the health of the citizenry.
