NNPC, Maths Centre Collaborate on Local Content From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) have agreed to collaborate to build local content from its present 17 per cent to 40 and 45 per cent by 2007. Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Funsho Kupolokun, while receiving the Director-General of the Mathematics Centre Professor Sam Ale, stressed that local content was in the agenda of the civilian administration. He said the nation's industries spend well over N100 billion annually on offshore contents hence it has become necessary for the industries to move closer to universities and research outfits such as the NMC for rapid development of the local content. While commending Ale for initiating the Joint Higher Degree Programme - consisting of courses not offered in any university in the country with the aim of bridging the gap between the concept of science and its application on sustainable development, he assured the centre of the corporation's total support in terms of sourcing for funds where feasible to assist it. Earlier, Ale had informed Kopulokun of the Centre's efforts at revamping the technical learning of mathematics and mathematical sciences at all levels of the education in the country as a way of building Nigerian manpower needed for technological advancement.
