Group to Mediate in Southern Govs' Feud From Onwuka Nzeshi in Warri The South/South People Conference (SSOPEC), a non- partisan political pressure group yesterday resolved to mediate in the seeming mutual distrust and unhealthy rivalry amongst governors of the six states in the South-South geo-political zone. Leaders of the pressure group are billed to meet the governors of Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross-River and Akwa-Ibom states individually in their various states and thereafter meet with them collectively in a family round table conference. The various meetings, This Day leant, would address the growing conflict of interest and resultant cold war amongst the governors as evident in the discordant tunes they now sing since their re-election for a second tenure in April 2003. Deputy National Chairman of SSOPEC, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark made the intention of the pressure group known in an interaction with Journalists, yesterday. The elder statesman lamented that the disharmony amongst these governors was already rubbing off negatively on the political and economic future of the south-south zone. Clark who described the emerging disunity amongst the governors as retrogressive said � it is most unfortunate that our oppressed people should be dissipating their energy in accusing one another regarding issues which they can easily resolve amicable at a round table". He lashed at Governors Lucky Igbinedion (Edo), James Ibori (Delta), Depriye Alamaseigha (Bayelsa), Peter Odili (Rivers), Donald Duke (Cross River) and Victor Attah (Akwa-Ibom) over their inability to resolve the issue of finding a suitable replacement for the late Chief A.K. Dikibo who until his death was the deputy national Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), south-south zone.
