'Why Suspended Lawmakers're Not Paid'

Plateau State governemnt has said its did not pay the suspended political office holders, especially members of the state House of Assembly because of their refusal to surrender the official vehicles in their possession.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. John Gobak, indicated that government took the action with the backing of the Emergency Powers (General Regulations 2004 made pursuant to the Emergency Powers Act 1961 under which the current administartion is operating.

The statement read in parts: "Until the applicable law is changed, government would continue to be guided by the existing law on this matter."

Gobak affirmed that political office holders on suspension that have surrendered their vehicles have been paid their salary arrears for the period March to May 18.
