FG, PDP Indicted over ANPP Rift
From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin

All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Kwara State has accused both Federal Government and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly sponsoring the crisis rocking the party.

The state party spokesman, Comrade AbdulRauf Bello, in a chat with THISDAY, alleged that Federal Government and the ruling party are becoming uncomfortable with the vibrant opposition voices of ANPP.

He however warned of an impending danger to the on-going democratic project if all the political parties that are opposed to the ruling party must be thrown into crisis.

According to him, "a veritable opposition should be seen as a necessity for democratic growth. PDP with its machination may have succeeded in bringing to a serious crisis the once united Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the same party is trying similar thing with ANPP."

"PDP should realise that we in the opposition are part and parcel of this democracy. All of us cannot form the government at the same time," he argued, adding that "if the style of PDP is to keep on dividing us, best of luck to our democracy."

Bello called for restraint from ANPP bigwigs, even as sanctions and counter-sanction continued to trail the purported suspension of Governor Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State by the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the party.

He pleaded that "there should be no crack in the wall of ANPP because Nigerians are looking up to us as the only alternative to PDP and government of President Olusegun Obasanjo."

ANPP scribe canvassed for adequate funding of all opposition parties to save the country from drifting into a one party state, saying no credible democracy would allow the ruling party exclusive right over the nation's resources.

He noted that "what kind of democracy are we practicing here in Nigeria when only the ruling party takes all including the monthly allocation."

He stated that "it is high Federal Government started conceding certain percentage of federal allocations to the opposition parties,"

stressing that the denial of the federal allocations would continually weaken the level of opposition and this is too dangerous for our democracy."
