Committee Laments Reduction in Christian Pilgrims Lagos By Andrew Ahiante Christian Pilgrims Comm -ittee (CPC), yesterday lamented reduction in the number of Christians willing to go for this year's pilgrimage to the Holy Land, whichis far less than its target of 12,000. Chairman of this year's Pilgrims Committee, Dr. Timothy Ajakpo (OON), who led members to THISDAY corporate Headquarters yesterday, said many Christians do not benefit from the spiritual rebirth the programme is suppose to offer, due to lack of information. "We need enlightenment about the advantages of going for pilgrimage. We want Christians to know that going for pilgrimages is good. It is part of preparation to heaven and helps to deepen our faith and follow the footsteps of Christ", he said. "It is easy to say I am a Christian, but living like Chist is a different thing while going for pilgrimage will help the individual to achieve just that", he said. He said if Nigerians take advantages offered through pilgrimage, the nation would be better for it, as such people are likely to move nearer God and live exemplary life for the benefit of God and mankind. He said the Committee was posed to improve on the spiritual content of this year's programme, which will be the best ever organised. He advised Christians to come out en mass and register for the programme, stressing that it was not as expensive as people think. According to him, it will require a total amount of N232,000 for an individual to go for the programme, which, covers return tickets, accommodation, feeding allowance, internal transportation, visa and passport. Already, he said, sensitisation was going on, while screening of those who apply follows. He called on well-meaning Nigerians to sponsor eligible candidates who may not have enough fund.
