Varsity Students Demand VC's Recall Ogun From Toba Suleiman in Abeokuta Students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, have threatened a showdown should the state government fail to recall the institution's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Afolabi Soyode. The students, under the aegis of Human Rights and Political Organisations, an amalgamation of all progressive groups on campus, made their positions known in a letter addressed to Governor Gbenga Daniel, copies of which were made available to newsmen in Abeokuta. "We want to state without mincing words that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Afolabi Soyode be called back from his compulsory leave without further delay. "Failure to do this may lead to some actions from progressive students of OOU, which the state government may not be happy about," the students said. In the letter jointly signed by Chairman, Comrade Bola Adeniji and Secretary, Comrade Segun Bada, the timing of the leave of the VC was not only very wrong, but also not good for the OOU education system. "The state government should henceforth desist from any politically motivated action, capable of having negative effect on OOU. "We want to call on the governor to make use of his good offices by fulfilling his promise to give buses to OOU students. "We believe all our requests would be considered to prevent further crisis within the students body and the university community at large, to ensure crisis-free examination.
