YCE hinges country's progress on restructuring
THE Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has again stressed the imperative of restructuring the country, insisting that it is the only way the federating units and the country at large can realise their full potentials.
In a statement yesterday, at the end of their meeting in Ibadan, the Elders' Council also admonished politicians in the South West to eschew bitterness and character assassination of political opponents.
According to YCE, the dream of a greater Nigeria will remain a great dream, unless such restructuring is done to recognise and accommodate the differences in the culture of the peoples of Nigeria.
The council admonished politicians to remember that irrespective of their political leanings, their ultimate objective is to improve the peoples' welfare, adding that this could only be achieved in peaceful atmosphere.
While restating its unflinching faith in the tremendous potentials of the nation, the YCE pointed out that these would remain a dream unless the country is restructured to recognise and accommodate the differences in the culture of the federating units.
The council also reassures the Yoruba race that it would not shirk its responsibility to the race while expressing delight in the progress made by the organisation in articulating and advancing the interest of the race.
Members at the meeting, which was chaired by Maj.Gen Adeyinka Adabayo, included Chief Richard Akinjide, Dr. Dejo Raimi and Prof. Adetoun Ogunseye, among others.
