    Another bunkering ship declared missing

    •House summons Naval chiefs

    ABIODUN ADELAJA, Abuja

WHILE the missing MT African Pride, the impounded ship involved in alleged illegal bunkering, has not been found, another ship MT Jimoh, held for the same offence, is now found to be also missing.

An apparently angry House of Representatives investigative panel probing circumstances surrounding the missing MT African Pride, has consequently summoned Defence Minister, Alhaji Musa Kwankwaso and four Naval top brass over the incidents.

They are to appear before the panel next week.

The four Naval chiefs are Rear Admiral Bob-Manuel, former Flag Officer Commanding, (FOC), Western Naval Command; his successor, Rear Admiral Samuel Kolawole; Rear Admiral S. Agbiti, Chief of Operations and Commodore Baji.

Others billed to also appear before the investigative panel are the Police Commissioner-in-charge of Marine Operations and one John Amah, a lawyer.

Reiterating the panel’s resolve to unearth the circumstances that led to disappearance of the ships, Hon Aziegbemi said "the truth is somewhere between the Navy and Police."

Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Samuel Afolayan, had while testifying before the panel said the first missing ship, MT African Pride, was handed over to the Police authorities before it got missing, a claim, the Inspector General of Police promptly disclaimed.

Although Aziegbemi said his committee’s mandate was on MT African Pride, he, however, explained that evidence leading to recovery of MT Jimoh would also interest the House of Representatives.

He said the committee has discovered that both ships disappeared at about the same time.
