Gombe Commended for Flood Management From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Honourable Kawu Peto has commended the state government for releasing N150 million to the State Flood Committee to assist Flood victims. The speaker in an interview with newsmen in his office disclosed that the house may enact laws to prevent people building on sewage or water ways. According to him, the steps taken so far by government was commendable. He described the recent flood as unfortunate, assuring that the House will assist in passing relevant laws that could lead to possible resettlement of some people in the state capital. According to Peto, building houses on sewage and waterways was very risky and government must take appropriate steps. "I think it is necessary to enact laws to out-law building on sewage or waterways in order to prevent a future reoccurrence. Even if it means government resettling some people" Peto also commended government for settling up a technical committee on how to solve the ecological problem of Gombe metropolis and its environs before the flood disaster, which requires at least about N8 billion. Besides, the Speaker gave kudos to the Security Committee headed by the State Deputy Governor John Yoriyo, which has reduced robbery and house-breaking to the beariest minimum "in the state".
