Nigeria L oses N10 bn Annually to Fire From Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja According to the "Universal Care Matters," an organisation concerned with fire prevention, control and safety as well as infrastructural maintenance. Chief Executive of the organisation, Mr. Peter Nwoji disclosed this in a statement in Abuja ahead of a stakeholders summit on fire prevention slated for Abuja this week. The statement regretted that often times the lives lost during infernos are never put into consideration while those who survive are left to live with the emotional trauma and life-long injury. It was for this reason that all those connected with fire prevention and control in the country as well as other stakeholders are gathering in Abuja to adopt a common approach to cut down on damages due to fire especially as the dry season draws close. The summit which is being organised by the Federal Fire Service in collaboration Universal Care Matters, is aimed at developing new strategies for fighting fire outbreaks and educating property owners, especially managers of public buildings on the latest ways to prevent and combat such incidence. Nworji said the conference with its theme 'Using Digital equipment for rapid intervention in fire fighting in Nigeria' is geared towards achieving the following objectives of; disseminate information on how to prevent and combat fire, encouraging best practices in management of fire out-breaks and victims and prescribing adequate level of fire fighting equipment for fire service stations.
