'Ex-Council Officials' Entitlements Settled' Gombe From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe All the 11 Local Government Councils in Gombe state are not owing their workers. State House of Assembly Chairman on Finance and appropriation Committee, Honourable Danhasinmi Adamu, in an interview with newsmen yesterday, said all former chairmen and councilors of the state local government councils had been paid their severance allowances. According to him, four local government councils were initially owing their workers but the state government had directed the councils to pay their liabilities. He revealed that the councils had not tabled the issue of debts or liabilities since the commencement of their budget defence for 2004. The lawmaker added that "the councils had a lot of payment in the past nine months. Four of them were initially owing workers and the state government had directed them to pay their workers. So, they have not raised any issue on debt or liabilities before our committee." The committee chairman disclosed that his committee had appropriated the budget of the councils in line with the policy of the Governor Danjuma Goje administration to enhance efficiency in the service. He emphasised that the era of financial waste had gone and that the Assembly could not allow unnecessary capital expenditure by the councils. "Since all the chairmen are PDP, we are concerned with capital projects that have direct bearing on the life of our people. So, we advised them to make some changes in their budget," Adamu stressed.
