We Won't Compromise Standards - VC Gombe From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe Vice Chancellor of the Gombe State University, Professor Abdullahi Madhi, has assumed duties with a promise not to compromise standard in the admission policy of the institution. Mahdi, a former Vice Chance-llor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria during a courtesy call on the State Deputy Governor John Yoriyo, said he has accepted the appointment as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the new University in order to contribute his quota to the development of education. According to him he would do everything possible to put the University on a sound footing. Mahdi said the University would take off in November, adding that the present structures could accommodate about four faculties. Said Mahdi: "Your Excellency, I have accepted the offer with a promise not to compromise standard. I will do everything possible to put the University on a sound footing" The Vice Chancellor commended the Danjuma Goje administration for establishing the University, saying it is a worthwhile investment. Madhi appealed to government to give him free hand in order to set a high standard for the University. Responding the Deputy Governor, thanked Mahdi for accepting the offer, having served as ABU Vice Chancellor for eight years. Yoriyo believed the Vice Chancellor would lay a solid foundation for the takeoff of the University which he hope would be one of the best universities in the country. He promised that government would give the Vice Chancellor a free hand and support the university financially. The Deputy Governor called on the people of the State to support the new institution just as he condemned those criticizing the establishment of the university.
