Nzeogwu's sister commends Obasanjo over care for late mother
From Sunny Ogefere, Asaba

PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo was yesterday commended for caring for the late Madam Elizabeth Mgbeke Nzeogwu, mother of the late Kaduna Chukwuma Nzeogu.

The eldest daughter of the late madam Nzeogwu, Mrs. Theresa Nwuli said her mother died five minutes after the delegation sent by Obasanjo to visit the family left her home town, Okpanam.

She added that her late mother who passed on on Saturday died a happy person after living a fulfilled and peaceful life.

According to her, Obasanjo had sent a delegation to visit the mother and check how she was faring after being informed of the elderly woman's illness, which was essentially induced by old age.

"It was not more than five minutes that the team left us that mama died," Nwuli told The Guardian, adding that the President had since been informed of the death.

The Guardian learnt that Mrs. Stella Obasanjo was in Okpanam about three weeks ago to visit the late Madam Nzeogwu after reports that she was complaining that it was long that she last heard from thr President.

Nwuli said that her mother who died at the age of 103 years, had gathered all her children except one (Prof. Peter Nzeogwu) who stays in the United States (U.S.) and prayed for them before her death.

Her last moments were characterised by prayers, best wishes and advice for us the children," she stated.

The late Nzeogwu, an only child of her parents, hailed from Ugbolu in Oshimili North Council area of Delta State and she was survived by six children, 38 grand children, 34 great-grand children and one great-great-grand child.

Already, a condolence register has been opened at the family compound at Okpanam, where people have been trooping to commiserate with the family.

"We are not mourning, we have come to rejoice with them (the family) for a life well lived," one of the sympathisers volunteered.

It was learnt that Ugbolu indigenes had indicated their interest to have the late Nzeogwu buried at Ugbolu, but the children said mama could not be separated from Okpanam.
