Monday, September 20 2004 Vol 17 No.30 News Editorial Opinion Labour Politics Sports Features Columnists Business Money/Market Energy Alaba Market Foreign News Odili seeks more funds for housing ministry Tony Ita etim, Port Harcourt Governor Peter Odili of Rivers State has called for the allocation of more funds to the Federal Ministry of Housing to enable it provide houses for Nigerians. Odili made the call in Port Harcourt when the Senate committee on Housing and urban Development led by Senator Ike Ekweremadu paid him a courtesy visit. The governor appealed to the committee to appropriate more funds to the ministry in next year’s budget to ensure effective implementation of the housing policy. Challenging the Senators to use their positions as instruments for the implementation of the housing policy, Odili commended them for accepting the spirit of a new ministry that targets the principle of building 40,000 houses across the nation every years for four years. He announced that the Certificate of Occupancy for intending private estate developers in the state would be signed within 10 days of application. According to the governor the certificate would be signed and delivered to any developer who wants to build a minimum of 500 houses in the state.
