Ibru complex hailed for compliance with shipping rules
By Alex Olise

THE Ibru Organisation was at the weekend commended by the Federal Government for its compliance with the International Shipping and Port Facility Security code (ISPS).

Minister of Transport, Chief Abiye Samuel Precious Sekibo, who visited the Ibru Port Complex at Ibafon, Apapa, Lagos said he was impressed with the security measures put in place by the Ibru Organisation.

When the minister arrived at the complex, he proceeded immediately to the jetty were ships berth for inspection.

The Group Executive Director of Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oskar Ibru, stated that "it was a great honour" to have the minister visit one of the largest private ports in West Africa.

The visit, he said, would afford the minister the opportunity to assess first hand the security measures stakeholders at the complex had put in place to achieve the ISPS code compliance.

He noted that the organisation was ready to work closely with the Ministry of Transport to comply fully with the new security code.

According to him, the Ibru Jetty has become a meeting point for oil marketers as it plays host to buyers of petroleum products across the country.

He explained further that operatives at the depots were experts, who under the Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Committee, had collectively fashioned out safety modalities to protect the environment.

He stressed that emphasis had been on ensuring safety precaution.

While inspecting the jetty, the minister made enquiries about the security arrangement at the facility. The security officer (PFSO), Mr. Jacob Markus replied that the Ibru Port was operating excellently.

The minister advised the organisation to embark on serious screening of trucks coming to the premises and never allow unauthorised persons in.

The Ibru organisation managers who received the minister were the General Manager, Mr. Peter Brown, the Chief Accountant Mr. Matthew Adelusola, Assistant General Manager Mr. Godwin Doghudje and Shipping Manager Mr. Mike Mobei.
