Atiku appeals to Nigerians for patience
VICE President Atiku Abubakar at the weekend appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the current administration.
He also urged them to pray for divine guidance for their leaders.
Abubakar made the appeal in Ibadan at the grand finale of the 60th birthday anniversary of Oyo State Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, at the Trans-Amusement Park.
The Vice-President stressed the importance of prayer and its efficacy in the administration of a people and country.
He said what Nigerians needed now was prayer of all for the growth and development of the nation.
According to him, the country needed the support of all so that the government of President Olusegun Obasanjo would move the nation forward with its lofty programmes.
His words: "With the prayers from you, Nigerians, we have been able to achieve peace, unity, stability and progress under the able leadership of President Obasanjo."
He emphasised that the President Obasanjo-led government was receptive to positive criticisms, stressing that the government would continue to appreciate the kind gesture from its people.
Commenting on Governor Ladoja's birthday, Abubakar said it was sweet to celebrate at 60 and wished the governor the best of luck in the years ahead.
Abubakar lauded the governor for his positive contributions to the development of Oyo State and the country in general.
He claimed that he had been in the same political circle with the governor for long.
Also at the occasion, Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, described the South-West states as experiencing development.
Daniel, while making a speech at the launch of I Know Rashidi, a book on Governor Ladoja, said the new governors in the South-West have been living up to promises made to the electorate, as dividends of democracy were being enjoyed by the latter through the provision of essential facilities.
According to the governor, since the South-West, which includes Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo and Lagos states, agreed to be operating in the same way as Abuja, there had been enviable and laudable improvement in developmental projects in the zone.
He also felicitated with Ladoja, pointing out that the large turnout for the celebration from Oyo and other states was a testimony to the performance of the governor.
Abubakar also urged Nigerians to support government's reform programmes.
In his own remark, the author of I know Rashidi, Prince Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe, said the book was a birthday present to the governor written to shed light on the persona of Ladoja.
