Ekiti State government to employ 1,600 youths
EKITI State government is to recruit 1,600 unemployed youths into its service before the end of this month.
Governor Ayodele Fayose, who disclosed this yesterday in a statement by his Special Assistant on Information, Mr. Kola Ajumobi, said 100 youths would be recruited from each of the local councils.
He explained that of the 100 youths to be employed from each council, 60 would be employed into the junior cadre while the remaining 40 would be for the senior cadre.
Already, theprocess of recruiting the unemployed youths has begun with the directive that interested persons should collect their forms at their local council headquarters.
However, the governor assured that successful candidates, in the interview to be conducted, would receive their letters of employment on October 1, at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium during the celebration of the eighth anniversary of the creation of the state.
He explained that the Youth Employment Scheme was in furtherance of the poverty alleviation drive of his administration, pointing out that prudence, accountability and interest of the people would continue to be the guiding principles of his administration's financial transactions.
He also spoke on the state's revenue bond, which his administration has already pursued to second tranche of N1.5 billion, saying the proceeds would be spent on people-oriented projects.
The projects include urban and rural roads construction, agriculture, electrification, as well as water and housing development among others.
Fayose expressed hope that the state would be free from the debts occasioned by the revenue bond in October next year. Currently, the state pays N100 million to fund the bond.
He added that it was the desire of his administration not to take any loan but to spend within the limits of its resources to ensure that his successor was not committed to any debt.
He disclosed that through purposeful leadership, his administration has increased its internally generated revenue from N30 million to over N100 million monthly, adding that to boost the morale of workers, salaries were now being paid by 20th of every month.
Meanwhile, a department of due process is to be established to evaluate and justify all government contacts to minimise waste of public resources.
