The Guardian and the legislators
S One is baffled by the fact that the legislator is trying to lend scientific legitimacy to election rigging. One is tempted to ask if rigging can be given scientifically accurate prediction. Even American pollsters cannot scientifically predict the outcome of rigged elections. Except perhaps the legislator is referring to crude science that can be found at Okija. That might explain the reason most of our politicians troop to Okija or similar places before any election. The average Nigerian can vouch for labour leaders that they are not bribe-takers as we know of some legislators who even demand bribes before names submitted for ministerial appointments are confirmed. It is no doubt the wish of the majority of Nigerians that the NLC should not be de-registered. Instead the TUC should be allowed to seek membership of the NLC. This is the only amendment required by the people. The average Nigerian, I have no doubt in my mind, regards The Guardian Opinion Poll as the true representative of the wishes of the people and it is therefore most credible indeed. Any one who is trying to discredit it therefore is doing so to cloak his or her guilt of going against the wishes of the people during the debate.
