2007: Egwu Urges Igbo to Pray From Chinedu Eze in Abakaliki Governor Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State has urged Igbo to pray hard towards the actualisation of the Presidency in 2007, stressing that the project was realisable if the race took other ethnic nationalities that are interested in the presidency into consideration by cooperating and reaching understanding with them. He stated this yesterday during the interdenominational church service at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Kpirikpiri, Abak -aliki, to start activities marking the 8th anniversary of Ebonyi State, Nigeria's 44th independence, and Igbo day celebrations. Egwu enjoined the people of the state to use the opportunity of the celebrations to pray for Nigeria and the Igbo nation, saying that only through prayers will God grant peace and unity to the country. Egwu said Nigeria was in dire need of peace and unity, pointing out that without them the nation cannot make meaningful progress, adding that Nigeria was passing through difficult times because of reforms. He also called for prayers for Ebonyi State towards the peaceful selection of his successor in 2007, as he made it clear, that only God and not himself or any other person, can determine who succeeds him. Egwu said his successor must be one capable of sustaining the peace and unity that have become part of the state's existence and growth, observing that if they are sustained, Ebonyi would become an El-dorado before long.
