Kwara Awards Asa Dam Water Project From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Kwara State government has awarded a N630.9 million contract for the refurbishment of Asa Dam water works. The contract awarded to Naston/Scan Water Joint Ventures formed the highlight of last week executive council meeting chaired by the state Governor, Bukola Saraki. The project, according to the state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji AbdulRaheem Adedoyin, in a press statement, is the largest single project under his ministry since the inception of present administration, adding that the project would be completed within seven months. The commissioner noted that when the exercise is completed, the water works would be able to produce 12 million gallons of water per day alongside Federal Government's expansion project in the state which would increase the production capacity to 24 million gallons water per day. Adedoyin hinted that the Saraki administration has directed the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr. Abraham Ashaolu, to be directly involved in the project and ensure that production at the water works reaches 21 million gallons per day. Meanwhile, the state government has entered into N1.68 million renewable yearly lease agreement with Balex Nigeria Ltd to operate the moribund Oke-Oyi poultry. The agreement approved the leasing with an agreement that the project shall be renewable every year. The cabinet meeting agreed that the state Ministry of Finance would facilitate a N9.19 million loan to Balex to jumpstart the operation of the lease-deal. The loan, the council directed, would attract a nine per cent interest and repayable in three years of equal instlment.
