'Misconception on Govs' Wives Unfortunate' Kwara From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Wife of Kwara State Governor, Mrs Oluwatoyin Saraki has lamented the misconception on spouses of public officials in the country, describing it as unfortunate. She said this during the health summit organised by the state Ministry of Health, arguing that the perception has greatly affected her initiative called, Kwara Well-being Trust. According to her, people have largely refused to donate generously towards the initiative. She added that the donor apathy was a product "of the thought that many spouses of elected public officials" because they perceived it as an avenue to "amass wealth." She told stakeholders that her programme has series of meetings with major players in the state health sector and have devised interventionist strategies. "From our assessment, the state of healthcare delivery in Kwara state inherited at the inception of this administration was precarious, the number of doctors in our hospitals was scandalous while the level of ignorance among our people was a thing of concern,"she observed. She explained that her initiative planned specific interventions in the area of reproductive health, adult health and environmental health. The governor's wife hinted that her foundation has under taken an extensive renovation of the hospital, transforming the Children's Specialist Hospital, Centre Igboro, to a modern-day hospital. Mrs. Saraki stated that notwithstanding the paucity of funds, she has made considerable achievement in the health sector.
