Govt Promises Support for Christian Pilgrims

Bauchi State government has assured the national officials of Nigeria Christians Pilgrims committee that it would continue to support and ensure increase in the number of people to be sponsored for this year's Christian Pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
The state Acting Governor, Alhaji Abdulmalik Mahmoud, who gave the assurance when officials of the committee under the leadership of Rev. Garba Dutse, paid him a courtesy call in his office. He said the present administration is committed towards ensuring peaceful co-existence, unity, tolerance and harmonious relationship among the various ethnic-religions communities in the state.
Mahmoud assured the committee of government's continued support and cooperation at all times, even as he urged them to continue to pray fervently for the administration in its quest to enhance the welfare and living standard of the people of the state as well as for the growth and sustenance of democracy in the country.
He added that in the last five years, the state government has been rendering assistance to religious affairs in the state and hoped that the spirit would be maintained.
Mahmoud, who is also the state Deputy Governor observed that government would not allow mischief-makers to continue to cause confusion in the state and therefore called on Christians and all other citizens to always pray for peace and stability in the State in particular and the nation in general.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dutse noted that they were in the state as part of the on - going visit to all states of the federation.
He said Bauchi State has a good record of discipline and decency during Holy Pilgrimage and expressed optimism that the gesture would be maintained.
The cleric used the forum to describe the Governor Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu - led administration as worthy of emulation especially on development projects and programmes that have direct bearing on the citizenry.
