Babalola Clears Air on Emergency Advocate's Identity

Former Special Adviser on Education to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief S.K. Babalola, has cleared the air over the confusion of his identity with a former gubernatorial aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Sikiru Babalola who recently called for declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Babalola, who addressed a press conference over the weekend at his Ijapo Estate residence in Akure, said "I am a little bit disturbed when I learnt that some people in Abuja and other parts of the country attributed the statement calling for a state of emergency made by Sikiru Babalola to me.
Unfortunately, it was a case of mistaken identity. I am Samuel Kolawole Babalola from Ipoti-Ekiti, in Ijero Local Government area and not Sikiru Babalola who is from Ado-Ekiti Local Government," he explained.
According to ,him, though he also contested the gubernatorial primaries with Governor Ayo Fayose, the differences between him and the governor has been settled after the intervention of President Olusegun Obasanjo and that he has been working with Fayose who he described as his political son.
He described the call for declaration of a state of emergency due to the assassination attempt on the life of the chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government as premature and unnecessary, since the Inspector General of Police, Mr Tafa Balogun has instituted an enquiry into the incident.
Babalola described the assassination attempt as anti-thetical to the doctrine, tenets and indeed the culture of Ekiti People, adding that it might have been motivated by enemies of the PDP-led administration to malign the state government.
"we as citizens of Ekiti who are members of the PDP will not want a situation where a state of emergency would be declared in our state. We want peace to regin and we want all our supporters to enjoy the dividends of democracy," he said.`
Babalola said the "reason for the demand of Ekiti State was that we wanted development. now that the state has been created and its government is in the hand of Ekiti people, we must work towards accelerated development and not for a situation that will warrant declaration of a state of emergency which will be a great set back in the political history of the state," he said.
