Bauchi SSG Tasks Indigenes on Development
From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi
The Secretary to the Government of Bauchi State, Alhaji Muhammad Umar has tasked wealthy indigenes in the state on the need to support the on-going efforts at reviving the state economy through the setting up of cottage industries.
Umar, who gave the challenge in Bauchi noted that the herculean task of reviving the state's economy rests on the shoulders of all patriotic citizens of the state, both at home and abroad.
According to him, "the present administration has set an agenda to reposition the state economy to ensure socio-economic and political growth and development of the state but as politicians and not magicians, we need the patronage of our wealthy indigenes who have been investing in other state's economies to come forward and offer a helping hand this time around"
He pointed out that the present administration, as a matter of concern, set up industrial commission that was vested with the functions of wooing industrialists to the state in the interest of its economy adding that prospective investors interested in setting up cottage industries in the state should not hesitate as incentives needed for such to thrive will be provided by the state government.
He also called on political office-holders not to take the people for granted through their actions and inactions stressing that they should endeavour to fulfill all their electoral promises. Umar warned against the dangers of gossiping and rumour mongering in the state pointing out that the trend will only create disunity and disaffection adding that unity is necessary if the state is to forge ahead in its developmental pursuits.
He therefore enjoined the entire citizenry to bury their ethnic, religious and political differences and work towards the rapid development of the state, stressing that what the state needs is dedication and hard work towards raising the socio-economic and political status to enviable heights.
He said despite the huge debt inherited from past military regimes, the present administration was doing its best to provide basic social amenities as well as executing policies, programmes and projects that have direct bearing on the people.
He maintained that there is the need for the people of the state to continue to cooperate and show understanding with the government for success to be achieved.
Umar also urged political office holders not to see their election as a means for enriching themselves because the country needs reforms through hard work and honesty, adding that the state and the nation in general needs the collective efforts of all in order to restore lost glory.
