As Akume Revives Cycling in Benue By Femi Solaja The ongoing Maltina Cycling Tour of Nigeria which has made the Benue State capital one of its route for the second time consecutively, may have started yielding its dividends to numerous cyclists in the state following the decision of the State Governor Gorge Akume to revive the inactive association in the state. The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Tourism Hon. Clement Ajowanongu at the presentation ceremony of the Makurdi end of the race, said that the governor was highly impressed with gesture of Nigerian Breweries Plc for using the state as a vehicle to the promotion of the road race. "The Governor was highly impressed when he got to know that the state capital will again enjoy the road race again and the consequence of this is to reawaken the consciousness of the citizens through cycling aside football. "The Cycling Association has been in limbo for a very long time and it is our belief that if we revive it, the potentials in the sport will have the opportunity to display their talents. "I can assure you that once the association is revived, Benue will not just be a participant in the sport, and we want to be major actor in it too. "Nigerian Breweries have done a lot to the development of our youths and it will be a good gesture if they can assist the state in the sponsorship of local competition in this state.
