International bandit held in Lagos
A SUSPECTED Nigerian international robbery kingpin Adamu Saidu, is now in police net after leading a bank robbery in Cote d'Ivoire where millions of Cefas was carted away.
His arrest came through intelligence reports received by police in Lagos about his hide out.
Lagos Police Commissioner Mr. Israel Ajao, who confirmed his arrest to journalists said: "preliminary investigations conducted after the arrest revealed that the suspect, together with his gang members, robbed a bank in Cote d'Ivoire after which he escaped to Nigeria with his own share of the loot."
According to Ajao, the Nigerian born bandit was sighted at Berger Auto Dealers Market, Olodi Apapa, and based on this report, a team of detectives from the station moved to the scene and arrested the suspected bandit.
Although the police could not confirm from which state in Nigeria Adamu hails from, Ajao said Saidu confessed that he did not have a fixed address.
Also confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Police spokesman, Mr. Emmanuel Igbodalo, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said, "the international bandit sold the sum of one million, nine hundred and thirty five thousand Cefas to one Chika Nwabueze, who has now travelled to Benin Republic to purchase goods with the said money".
Ighodalo added, the lid was blow open on the crime, when Chika was nabbed by police in Benin Republic for money laundering.
"Benin police have been intimated of the crime before now by Cote d'Ivoire police authorities and were already hunting for Adamu Saidu."
The arrest of Chika aided police to trail Saidu.
According to Ighodalo, while the case is in the process of being transferred to the interpol for further action, Saidu was said to be making more revelations on some of his accomplices.
