Police arrest Afolabi's ex-aide over murder allegation
POLICE in Osun State have arrested a former special assistant to the late Internal Affairs Minister, Chief Sunday Afolabi, for allegedly shooting and killing a fellow-resident, one Adedokun Sangosola.
The aide, a retired police officer, allegedly had a disagreement with his fellow resident at Ire town over the inscription of names on a rock in the town.
He was reported to have instructed some of his supporters to inscribe on the rock; "Ponnle Ebo Solidarity Movement welcomes you to Ire" on the rock located at the entrance to the town, an act which was resisted by some residents.
Those who opposed the move argued that there was already an inscription on the same rock by the Obasanjo/Atiku movement, which should not be tampered with.
And apparently to prevent Ebo's group from carrying out their action, supporters of Obasanjo/Atiku movement had reportedly gone and repainted the rock, to give it a face-lift.
Apparently angered by this, the aide, riding a bicycle, had stormed the scene and began shooting sporadically. In the process, Sangosola was hit by a bullet, while two others were seriously injured.
In the ensuring melee, some of the residents seized his pistol and beat him to a state of coma before handing him over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
The police spokesman, Mr. Joshua Olayemi who confirmed the incident, said investigations were still on-going, but that the body of the deceased had been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.
