The Senate at work
SIR: I do not understand the Nigerian Senate anymore. It is as if any bill that goes to them from the Executive branch must sail through even if it is against the wishes of the people who elected them. It has been a very controversial upper chamber which hardly opposes any bill no matter how bad it is.
I am worried about the labour bill and the speed with which it sailed through the Senate, despite widespread opposition. I am equally worried by the nonchalance of the Senators on serious matters which affect the people they pretend to represent, for example the recent increases in the prices of petroleum products.
The only time the Senate reacts is in matters which affect them directly like when they were referred to as fools. It is really sad that the members are perceived as such. But that is because of the way the present Senate handles issues.
