WAEC releases May/June 2004 WASSCE results, withholds 102,315

LAGOS—The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) released results of the May/June 2004 West African Senior  School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) in Lagos, yesterday.

Briefing the press, Mr. Tunde Oloyede, Head of National office, said a total of one million, fifty-two thousand six hundred and  seventy-two (1,052,672) candidates sat for the examination nationwide.

Out of this figure, one million, one thousand, two hundred and eighty-nine (1,001,289) candidates, representing 95.12%, have  their full results released; while fifty-one thousand, three hundred and eighty-three (51,383) candidates representing 4.88% have  partial  results.

However, the results of one hundred and two thousand, three hundred and fifteen (102,315) candidates representing 9.75% are  being withheld  for alleged involvement in various forms of examination malpractice.
Oloyede added that the reports on the malpractice cases are bing compiled for presentation to the Nigeria Examinations  Committee of  the Council.

The committee’s decisions on the various cases will be made known to the affected candidates in due course.
According to him, candidates can now check the results on the waecdirect website as from today, Wednesday, 29th  September, 2004.

He disclosed that WAEC’s on-line registration system would soon be launched, saying, “this project will revolutionise the  enrolment of candidates for our examinations as the process will become stress-free and error-free.”

The head of National office explained that capturing data accurately from the registration stage will, definitely, obviate most of  the queries which arise during the conduct of examinations and processing of results.
