Wednesday 29, September 2004 HOME | back to previous page Anambra senatorial appeal cases resume By Chukwudi Achife Bureau Chief, Enugu Legal battles over Anambra Central and South Senatorial districts resumed on Monday at the Court of Appeal, Enugu with Senator Ikechukwu Abana and Mr. Nicholas Ukachukwu both asking for a retrial of their cases, which they had controversially lost to their opponents, Chief Ben Obi and Senator Ugochukwu Uba respectively. The fresh trials followed the constitution of a new panel of the appellate court headed by Justice J. O. Ogebe, to try the Election Appeal cases in the division, all of which had been dogged by controversies. The new panel is the fourth to be constituted for the cases since trials started late last year. Abana, who had petitioned the National Judicial Council over the conduct of the Justice Ayo Salami-led panel that awarded judgment to Chief Obi, is asking the new panel to set aside the earlier judgment in the matter as well as a stay of execution of the said judgment on the grounds that the Salami panel was biased against him.       Copyright� 2004.
