Wednesday 29, September 2004 HOME | back to previous page Council boss condemns hike in prices of petroleum products By Stella Odueme Reporter, Lagos   The chairman of Ojodu Local Government, Mr. James Faleke hascondemned the increase in the prices of petroleum products. He berated thefederal government for its insensitivity to the well being of the populace. Faleke said that the down trodden has never had it so bad,adding: �When you put the prices of petroleum to fifty or sixty naira,you are indirectly saying that the prices of food such as tomatoes, vegetablesetc should go up; which means that people will no longer be able to eat becausethey will not be able to afford it�. Picking holes in the ability of the National Assembly tocheck the excesses of the Executive, he said: �If the president can justdeclare the office of the NLC president as illegal and over night say it can nolonger negotiate on behalf of workers, and over night increase the prices offuel, then we should expect worse things�. Faleke lamented that a country as blessed as Nigeria stillhas leadership problems and urged Nigerians to pray hard between now and 2007,so that credible candidates who will impact positive changes in the life of thecommon man will contest in the 2007 general elections.   Copyright� 2004.
