Afolabi's Aide Kills PDP Member From Hammed Shittu in Osogbo Pandemonium broke out yesterday at Iree, the country-home of the former Internal Affairs Minister, late Chief S. M. Afolabi, when one of his Special Assistants, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Ponle Ebo, shot dead a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the erection of Obasanjo/Atiku Movement signpost. THISDAY checks revealed that several members of PDP were seriously injured from the gun shot while others took to their heels. It was gathered that trouble started when some members of PDP in all the three wards of the town converged at the outskirt of the town to erect a signpost in support of Obasanjo/Atiku Movement. Unknown to the members, Ebo was interested in the erection of a signpost at that particular place where Obasanjo/Atiku Movement signpost at the same location under the aegies of "Ebo Solidarity Movement Group," his pet project. Sources told newsmen in Osogbo that when the information came to him (Ebo), rode on a bike to the scene of the incident and met some people already working on the billboard, he was said to have shot the tyres of all the vehicles that brought the people to the site first to demobilise them before shooting at the crowd. Most people took to their heels and ran for their dear lives. Contacted, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Joshua Olayemi, who confirmed the incident, stated that Ebo "is now in police net." He said Ebo was helping the police on their investigation and "as soon as we complete our investigation, the suspect would be charged to court."
