Council Boss Petitions Idris Over Assassination Attempt

Chairman, Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Emmanuel Egwaba has raised alarm over attempts by some people to assassinate him.
Egwaba, who had already petitioned the State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bamidele Thomas over the incident said "the assassins numbering about nine persons had used their guns to shoot in the air to scare people away to enable them get at him but they however failed".
He said the hired assassins, who succeeded in preventing him from travelling to the headquarters of his local government council attacked him around 5pm last Wednesday in an attempt to kill him.
In his formal complaint letter addressed to the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris entitled: "Hired Assassin" said "I want to report the attempt to take my life by some hired assassins on Wednesday the 15th of September, 2004 at Onyedaga headquarters of Ibaji local government area of the State".
The letter, which was dated September 20, 2004, also said "the hired assassins numbering nine persons made attempt to kill me around 5p.m, while I was leaving my house to board a boat to Idah that faithful evening".
He pointed out that when they could not get at him, they dashed out to the waterside and demoblilized the official speedboat meant to take me to Idah that day.
Egwala, who appealed to the Police and other law enforcement agencies to effect the arrest and prosecution of the assassins said the appeal was to safeguard his life and property in the area, stating that the hired assassins were both from Ibaji and Edo State, who were commissioned to carryout the dastardly act by a self professed political godfather in the area.
The chairman, however, said he was determined to hasten up socio-ethnic and political development of the area.
It would be recalled that the state, early in the year witnessed the brutal assassination of two prominent politicians by yet to be identified persons.
The victims are the State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Chief Philips Oloruninpa and the Bassa Local Government Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman candidate, Hon. Luke Shigaba.
