Residents of the Yoruba community in Bauchi State has showered encomiums on Governor Adamu Mu'azu for introducing measures that have facilitated development in the state within the last five years of democracy in the country.
President of the community in the state, Deacon Sunday Oladipo, who made the remarks while fielding questions from newsmen in Bauchi, commended Mu'azu for ensuring that peace, order and stability reigned in the state "despite all odd."
Oladipo, who noted that the governor had proved his detractors wrong through the introduction of "novel dimension into politics and achieve greatly", said his resoluteness, dogged determination, dynamism and patriotism was responsible for his popularity, not only in the state but the nation at large.
He, therefore, challenged elected public offices in the country to focus attention on programmes and policies relevant to the needs and aspirations of the people, pointing out that "that is just one of the major ingredients of good governance, and that is the magic that Mu'azu has employed in the last five years in Bauchi State".
According to him, elected officers should be mindful of the responsibility vested on them, stressing that it was incumbent on them to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring that the masses benefited from the dividends of democracy.
The community leader, who expressed regret over the state of the nation's economy and the level of poverty among Nigerians noted that any politician worth his salt should out the interest of his people above self, "since public office is even meant to improve the lot of the people and not to enrich oneself.
Oladipo also advised public office holders to promote mutual understanding and respect amongst themselves with out which, there could be no meaningful development, adding that political leaders in the country should rise up and evolve economic strategies, which would help cushion the harsh effect of poverty in the country.
