PMP, Solon Unfold No-Holds Bared Lectures Series on Nigeria
Washington DC September 2: The Peoples Mandate Party (PMP), today officially announced policy programs sponsorship with the Solon Institute � a US based Think Tank, to begin an in-depth review of all policy areas, of interest to Nigeria and Nigerians. Speaking in Washington DC, Prof. Edward Oparaoji (National Vice Chairman of PMP) said, �This program will provide a platform for sharing new ideas and options between Nigerians in the Diaspora and at home, in order to facilitate a new dawn for our people�. Also speaking from their Washington DC office, Dr. Eugene Ezekwueche, Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Institute said, �The Solon Institute is a research, public policy and education think tank, whose mission is to champion the formulation and promotion of issues and policies of interest to the citizens of Nigeria, Africa and other developing countries.
We are open to every interest groups and opinions, in order to facilitate and promote good governance everywhere.� The sponsorship document among other issues identified areas of common interest such as �the convocation of a truly Sovereign National Conference of all interest groups and stakeholders to re-negotiate our polity and adopt a new peoples constitution�.advocate for strong credible and independent judiciary that will enforce the laws, and protect the lives, property and rights of all law abiding citizens as well as freedom of press and speech�..advocate for affordable, easily accessible quality healthcare, with emphasis on prevention and rural healthcare�.advocate a foreign policy consistent with the long established policy of locating Africa as the centerpiece of national policy decision�.advocate for compulsory quality free public elementary and secondary school education for every school age child, adult literacy programs�.advocate for a free diverse market economy with appropriate checks and balances and incentives for small and rural business developments�..advocate for agricultural policy emphasizing small-scale and medium-scale farming in line with the socio cultural practices of the people, while still paying adequate attention to large-scale, mechanized farming.� The group also put out a schedule for a �Policy Blitz, lecture series.. to engage experts in in-depth, no-holds bared policy reviews and recommendations.� These lectures will begin in the month of September 2006 and run through 2007. September has been designated to discuss �Nigerian Economy Stupid�.
Subsequent months will be devoted to �Soiled Oil Politics�, �Religion-Godless Intolerance�, �INEC Partial Arbiter�, �Incarcerated Judiciary� �Self Determination: Who determines?� and the �Ruptures of Corruption�. Some of the experts already scheduled to lead and present topics include Prof. Chudi Ikwueze (NY), Dr. Ken Akwuole (Maryland), Mr. Amam Acholonu (New Jersey) and Joseph Aralu (Atlanta). During his recent trip to the US, Dr Arthur Nwankwo, National Chairman of PMP gave his blessing to this collaboration and encouraged involvement of �Nigerian intellectuals and experts in the Diaspora�. He also said, �we must engage in rigorous objective analysis of our predicament to enable fashion the best remedies.� Prominent members of the PMP USA who echoed Dr. Nwankwo�s views include Chief Blaize Kaduru (Houston Based Telecommunication businessman), Chief Festus Anaele (Vice Chairman Nwannedinamba-Umbrella Igbo organization, East Coast USA), Mr Jude Onyewuchi (Secretary Oganihu USA, and Financial Analyst), Mazi Emeka Onumonu (Ekwenche Organization), Sir Luke Onuoha (Chairman Ugwumba USA), Josephh Aralu (economist and President, South East USA chapter of Anedo Social Club) and Chief Laur Onyekwere (President Aka Ikenga USA). Recent publications reported the first of the lecture series presented by Prof. Chudi Ikwueze, a professor of Finance and Economy, at The Pace University in New York, titled �Obasnajo�s economic program failed�. Prof. Oparaoji also acknowledged that partnership with Solon Institute, will �blunt our partisan Instincts� but then added �it is not necessarily a bad thing�.
