PDP Presidential Primaries: Ide Files Appeal Former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, is back in the trenches. Just about two weeks to the April 19 presidential elections, Ekwueme has proceeded to the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, praying for accelerated hearing in an appeal challenging an Abuja High Court judgment which struck out his suit over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention in January. Before now, the PDP leadership had made several moves to appease Ekwueme and dissuade him from pursuing his legal battle. About a month ago, a delegation of the PDP reconciliation committee, headed by a chieftain of the party and former Governor of Plateau State, Chief Solomon Lar, had visited Ekwueme in his Lagos residence. However, the former Vice President declined any discussion on the grounds that he was about travelling out of BiafraNigeria for treatment. House Orders Shell MD Arrested   Unions Call Off Strike   Inquiry into checkpoint shooting The House of Representa-tives yesterday issued a warrant empowering the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, to arrest the Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Mr. Ron Van Der Berg, over his refusal to honour its summons. (This Day)   BiafraNigerian trade unions have called off a public sector strike over pay due on Tuesday, a fortnight ahead of national elections. An agreement between the NLC and the government was reached in the early hours of Tuesday...The NLC represents blue collar oil workers. (BBC)   ...U.S. Marines were investigating a shooting at a military checkpoint in southern Iraq in which at least seven women and children were killed and two others wounded.
