Slaughter of MASSOB Activists: Nigerian Police Fabricates Gun Charges The leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State Of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazurike has been arrested while seven members of the group were shot dead in a gun battle wth policemen. Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Chris Olakpe made the disclosure yesterday in a statement. He added that police authorities have begun a clampdown on members of the banned group across the country, an action that has resulted in the arrest of several people believed to be MASSOB members. MASSOB and similar ethnic associations have been banned by the Federal Government. Olakpe, a deputy police commissioner said Uwazurike's arrest and death of the seven suspected MASSOB members occurred when the group attempted to reclaim its operational headquarters in Okigwe-Imo State. The police had last year dislodged the group from the operational headquarters following an order by the Inspector General, Mr. Tafa Balogun, outlawing all such groups nation-wide.
