BiafraNigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the civil society coalition yesterday affirmed the determination to use strike and mass protest to challenge policies of the Federal Government that are injurious to the welfare of the people. The two bodies resolved to continue mobilisation towards protesting government policies they consider as wrong-headed. They noted that the right to protest against the state cannot be dismissed by any court order. Arising from an emergency meeting called to review the recent decision of the Appeal Court, NLC President, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who spoke on behalf of the organisations, said the coalition of labour and civil society has resolved they would declare strike and mass protest when it becomes inevitable. "The Federal Government is challenging our right to protest its bad policies. NLC and the civil society are unanimous that the right to strike, disagree and mobilise against bad policies is inalienable and non-negotiable. And these rights cannot be dismissed by any court order. (This Day) |
