Speculation is swirling of underground moves to remove the Anambara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Donald Iroha, as an aftermath of the failed second attempt to sack Governor Chris Ngige. The late Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 9, Raphael Ige, was compulsorily retired late last year after the first plot to remove Ngige from office last July 10 failed. Police authorities denied involvement in the abduction saga and declared that the AIG acted entirely on his own. However, latest information from reliable sources at the police high command at the weekend showed that the hammer may soon fall on Iroha for his alleged failure to carry out the Enugu High Court order to remove Ngige last January. The order was served on Police Inspector General (IG) Tafa Balogun the day it was given by Justice Stanley Nnaji and was immediately endorsed to Iroha to implement it. Iroha briefed Ngige on the development and that he had been asked to execute the court ruling. Briefing the governor by Iroha did not please his bosses in Abuja who had expected him to dislodge Ngige without prior notice. (Daily Independent) |
